CPCT — Computer Proficiency Certification Test
Conducted by Madhya Pradesh Agency for Promotion of Information Technology (MAP_IT). Assesses basic computer knowledge, IT skills, general aptitude, and typing proficiency.

Structure
MCQs: 75 questions in 75 minutes — computer topics, aptitude, awareness. No negative marking.
Typing test: 15 minutes each for English and Hindi (mandatory). 10-minute mock before (not scored). Typing in Net Words Per Minute (NWPM), scaled to %.
Duration
Approximately 130 minutes (including transition time).
Passing criteria
Minimum 50% overall (e.g. 38/75 in MCQs, 30 NWPM English, 20 NWPM Hindi). For 80% confidence in passing, aim for 60+ in MCQs and 40+ NWPM in typing in mocks.

1. Familiarity with Computer Systems
Hardware: Generations & types (supercomputers, mainframes, PCs). Input devices (keyboard, mouse, touch screen, scanner, OCR, MICR, biometric, etc.). Output (monitor, printer impact/non-impact, speaker, plotter). Storage (USB, CD/DVD/Blu-ray, SSD, HDD). CPU (ALU, CU, Memory Unit). Motherboard, USB, LCD, sound card, graphics card.
Software: System, application, embedded; proprietary vs open-source. Languages: machine, assembly, high-level; interpreters, compilers. OS basics (Windows, Linux). Memory units: bit, byte, KB, MB, GB, TB, PB.

Setup: Booting/shutdown, login/logoff, IP address, network connectivity. Install/update/uninstall software, startup apps. Desktop customisation, volume, peripherals (printer, webcam, scanner). UPS, backups, troubleshooting. System admin: OS options, encryption, passwords, virus/spyware scanning. File management: copy, undo, help; internet, download/upload; printing, compression; PDF, ZIP, JPEG.

Word (MS Word): Create/edit, spellcheck, tables, headers/footers, formatting, mail merge, shortcuts (Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V, Ctrl+Z).
Excel/Spreadsheets: Numbers, formulas, cell references, macros, tables, charts, shortcuts (e.g. Ctrl+Shift+Enter).
PowerPoint: Slides, charts/graphs/data, formatting, transitions.
Internet: Search, upload/download, browsers, websites, blogs, email, video conferencing, collaboration.
~15–20 MCQs4. Reading Comprehension
Locating information, relationships, ideas, mood, character, tone, central theme, inferences. Passages 200–300 words with 2–3 questions each.
~5–10 MCQs5. Mathematical & Reasoning Aptitude
Maths: Discounts, compound interest, annuities, ratios, proportions, time/work/distance, 2D/3D areas & volumes.
Reasoning: Verbal (analogies, series, coding-decoding). Logical (conclusions from premises, validity of arguments).
~10–15 MCQs6. General Awareness
Indian history & geography, economy, Constitution (fundamental rights, amendments). Science & technology, current affairs (national/international, MP-related).
~5–10 MCQs7. Keyboard Skills (Typing Test)
English: QWERTY, 200–300 words, aim 30–40 NWPM.
Hindi: Inscript or Remington Gail (Unicode), aim 20–30 NWPM.
Metrics: accuracy (minimal backspaces), speed. Tip: error-free typing at moderate speed first; daily 30-min practice for 80% success.
